Welcome To The Growth Gazette Blog!
This blog is designed especially for young adults seeking to transform past adversities into opportunities for self-improvement, clarity, growth, and personal transformation.
If you are feeling directionless, unseen, hopeless, lost, confused, isolated, alone, or unfulfilled, you've come to the right place.
Through the lens of my personal experiences—traveling to 14 countries, pursuing a career in acting, growing up with a single mother and drug addicted and alcoholic father, and overcoming the loss of a close friend—I understand the importance of facing fears and seeking personal growth. With the guidance of a life coach, I found my way to a more fulfilling, purpose-driven life.
I grew up with ADD and was labeled to have a learning disability. Always struggling with school and barely passing any of my classes. I got arrested multiple times when I was a teenager and got expelled from my school district.
But, I overcame all that. One day while in a drunk tank after being arrested for the 6th time at the age of 16, I said enough is enough.
I began to change the story that I was telling myself, diving deep into non-fiction books, taking courses, getting coached, and changing my belief system and mindset.
Now, I am here to help you do the same. At The Growth Gazette, you'll find:
Join our community and unlock your potential. Embrace the journey of self-discovery and transformation. Let's work together to set clear goals, find your true purpose, and create a positive impact in your life and the world.
Welcome aboard! Let’s grow together.
Self-awareness is the foundation of breaking negative cycles: Recognizing your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours gives you the power to change unhelpful patterns and regain control over your choices. Tools like journaling, meditation, and therapy can help.
Habits shape your reality: Your life is the result of your daily habits. Identifying and replacing negative habits with positive, purposeful ones is crucial for transformation. Start small, be consistent, and celebrate progress.
Emotional intelligence empowers better choices: Understanding your emotional patterns allows you to pause, reflect, and respond thoughtfully, instead of repeating harmful reactions or behaviours.
Crafting a compelling vision directs your actions: Without a clear vision, it’s easy to repeat the past. Define the future you want, focus on it intentionally, and let it guide your decisions toward a life you’re proud of.
Breaking cycles is hard but worth it: The process requires time, setbacks, and self-compassion, but over time, you’ll forge a new path—one that’s uniquely yours and free from the patterns of the past.
Do you ever feel trapped in a cycle that began long before you were born? Whether it’s drinking, toxic relationships, or being a single parent, you swore it would be different for you—that you’d rewrite the script and build something better for yourself and those you love. But now, those same patterns seem to be creeping into your life, replaying the past in your present.
If you keep going down this path, it might lead to places you never imagined: struggling to make ends meet, coping with vices that control you, or becoming the person who repeats the same harmful patterns.
But here’s the truth: it doesn’t have to end this way. Imagine a life where you’ve broken free, where love, stability, and health shape your days, and where you have the strength and support to be the best partner, parent, or person you can be.
This life is within reach. And in this article, I’ll show you how to make it your reality.
Like anything worth doing, it's going to be hard, take time, have it's setbacks and failures, and require compassion towards yourself. Breaking negative cycles is no exception.
But as time goes on, you will not only build the skills to recognize the cycles, but overtime you will start to notice that the direction of your life is going down a completely different path, a path that you chose. A path that is yours. Living a life that you wanted to live and become the person that you'd look up to.
Here are the four ways to break those negative cycles and live the life that you can be proud of.
Self-awareness is the foundation of breaking negative cycles. Without knowing your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, meaningful change becomes nearly impossible. Self-awareness gives you the power to recognize unhelpful patterns and regain control over your choices.
Consider this: if you’re constantly triggered by certain situations, events, or reactions from others, are you truly in control of your life? Or are you just reacting automatically—possibly in the same ways your parents or past generations did? Developing self-awareness allows you to take control by noticing patterns and habits you may not have recognized before.
Once we start becoming self-aware, you begin to take control of our lives by recognizing our patterns and habits that we may have not been noticing before.

Here are some practical ways to cultivate self-awareness and start taking control of your life:
1. Journaling: Journaling is a powerful, affordable tool for creating self-awareness. There are many methods, and depending on your goals, one might be better suited for you than another. Explore different techniques to find what resonates most.
2. Meditation: After five years of meditation, I’ve noticed a massive difference—not just in my ability to stay calm in tense situations but also in observing my thoughts and emotions without immediate judgment or reaction.
3. Walking: Walking offers both health benefits and a chance to reflect on your reactions and experiences. Dr. Wendy Suzuki even calls it a “bubble bath for the mind” and recommends a minimum of 10 minutes for mental clarity.
4. Therapy/Coaching: Seeking help from a therapist or coach can be a powerful step in breaking out of negative cycles. Reaching out isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s a sign of strength and readiness to live differently from past patterns.
Habits are another driving force behind why we do what we do--and how we can transform our lives for the better.
When we start to recognize the routines and automatic behaviours we perform everyday, we can begin to understand why our life is the way it is.
See, habits create the results of our lives. Our current reality is a collection of our daily habits that we do over and over again. Skills are important, knowledge is important, but if you don't replace your old habits that aren't serving you, then not much will change.
Here’s how to start transforming your habits:
1. Identify Habits That Hold You Back: Notice which routines or actions don’t align with the life you want. Reflect on what triggers them and how they impact your daily life.
2. Start Small with New Habits: Instead of overhauling everything at once, focus on adding small, positive habits. Consistency over time is more powerful than trying to make massive changes overnight.
3. Replace, Don’t Just Remove: Trying to eliminate a habit without replacing it often leads to relapse. Substitute negative routines with positive actions that bring you closer to your goals.
4. Celebrate Small Wins: Recognize and reward yourself for every bit of progress. Building new habits takes time, and small victories help reinforce positive changes.
Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize, understand, and label our emotions. Tony Robbins describes this as our “emotional home,” while cognitive behavioural therapy calls it “habits of the mind.”
Essentially, we all have an emotional home—a familiar place we return to, whether it’s anger, abandonment, frustration, or another recurring emotion.
By becoming aware of our emotional home and these mental habits, we gain the power to pause, reflect, and choose our responses rather than reacting automatically.
This awareness allows us to break out of familiar cycles and respond in ways that align with our values, creating a future we can be proud of.
Without a vision, it’s easy to drift back into old patterns. When you clearly define the future you want, you create a path forward. Crafting a vision helps you focus your energy on positive outcomes and steer your actions toward a life that’s truly yours.
Imagine a future where you end up in the same place as your parents or previous generations—the very situation you vowed to avoid. If you don’t intentionally consider where you want to go in life, you may find yourself walking down the same well-worn path. As the saying goes, “where focus goes, energy flows.”
If you keep thinking about where your parents are, or the struggles that have plagued your family, that’s likely the path you’ll follow, even if it’s what you don’t want. The reason is simple: what we focus on repeatedly shapes our reality, for better or worse.
But if you take the time to craft a vision for your life—if you write down or meditate on the person you truly want to become—then you bring that vision to the forefront of your mind. This focus naturally influences your actions and decisions, directing you toward a future of your own making.
